Dry Needling

dry needling

We have a new option for both acute and chronic pain relief in our clinic. Dr Lisa Weeks has brought Dry Needling to Weeks Chiropractic Clinic. Dry Needling is a process that involves the insertion of “dry” needles, needles without medication, into trigger points of muscles to decrease the tautness of that muscle. Dry Needling has a mechanical effect by stimulation of the fibers in the muscle that has contracted. It causes the fibers to release and the muscle to relax. This, in turn,
decreases neuromuscular pain and increases functional movement.

What is a trigger point?
A trigger point is an area of muscle which has been overexerted. This area is commonly referred to as a “knot”. Patients will find pain is localized around this area. Dry Needling acts to release this “knot”.

Does Dry Needling Hurt

Generally, Dry Needling is pain free. The needles used are extremely thin and when inserted properly, should barely be felt. Patients may experience a slight twitch response on insertion which can cause a tingling, or a reproduction of the pain they are experiencing in that muscle.
